Brian Simmons
Head Coach

Coach Simmons is entering his 9th season (2024) as head coach of the Highlanders. Coach Simmons came to McLean in 2016 with a lifetime of lacrosse experience. In 2015, while coaching Fairfax HS, he was named Liberty District Head Coach of the year. Coach Simmons led Fairfax to its best regular season record, hosted its first play-off game and secured its first trip to the regional tournament in over a decade. Coach Simmons started his coaching career at Carmel HS in Monterey CA. In his second year of coaching at Carmel HS as the defensive coach, he was selected as the Assistant Coach of the year in the Northern California region.

Coach Simmons has been a student of the game since the time he was in first grade where he routinely attended Syracuse University men’s lacrosse games. He was selected First team all-county in his senior year at Cicero-North Syracuse HS. He continued his playing career at Elmira College where he was a 4-year starter and captain in his senior year. He helped Elmira College reach a ranking in the top ten for the first time in school history.

Coach Simmons resides in Fairfax County with his wife and 3 daughters (Sierra, Keelin and Shaelan). They are often found running in the bleachers while enjoying the games.

Coach Kelly
Asst. Coach

Coach Kelly is entering his 6th season with the Highlanders. This will be his third year as Offensive Coordinator. Before that he spent two seasons as the JV head coach. He is a proponent of an up-tempo, aggressive style of play on both sides of the ball which he developed his from his playing days at the Trinity Pawling School (NY). As a player he captained the lacrosse program, facing some of the best players in the nation while also earning First Team All-New England honors. Coach Kelly began his coaching career working with the Vienna Youth Lacrosse program and serves as an assistant football coach at McLean and is head coach of the 2024 Top Caliber travel team.

Coach McGrath
Asst. Coach

Entering his 4th season with Highlander. Coach McGrath is an offensive assistant. Coach McGrath focuses on individual skills (stickwork, shooting, stick protection, dodging, footwork and more). He was a 4-year varsity player at Central Bucks South High School in Warrington, PA where he accumulated over 100 goals. He was awarded first team all-conference Junior and Senior years. Coach McGrath continued his playing career at York College PA were his was again a 4-year starter and accumulated 190 career points (Averaged 3 PPG).

Christopher May
Asst. Coach

Coach Christopher May joins the McLean High School lacrosse staff for his first season with the Highlanders. He also coaches nationally with Faceoff Factory and previously spent two seasons at New Trier High School in Illinois, helping build one of the state’s top faceoff units.

A former professional player with the Denver Outlaws and Atlanta Blaze, Coach May competed collegiately at Georgetown and Ohio State. At Ohio State, he helped the Buckeyes reach the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2015, earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten, USILA Scholar All-American, and North-South All-Star honors while ranking among the nation’s leaders in faceoff wins and ground balls.

A McLean native and Gonzaga College High School alumnus, Coach May began his lacrosse journey in the McLean Youth program and is excited to return home to give back to the community that first introduced him to the game.

Will Yerkes
Asst. Coach

Grew up playing in Chicago, IL. 4 year varsity player, 3x team captain, 4x all conference in Chicago Public league (2012 champion).

Played MCLA (club) at University of Washington in Seattle. Was 4 year starter, 2x all conference (PNCLL), 2x MCLA scholar athlete, 2x captain. Also served as team president for senior year.

2nd year coaching at McLean.

Zak Sealy
Asst. Coach

Coach Sealy is entering his 9th season as a coach, 3rd with the Highlanders. He works primarily with the defense, but throughout his playing and coaching career, he has developed a complete sense of the game.

Before McLean, Coach Sealy spent 5 seasons coaching at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. He spent time coaching Junior High, JV and Varsity throughout his tenure at CNS. Specializing in an aggressive, yet disciplined style of defense, his teams often allowed few goals, holding several teams scoreless.

Coach Sealy spent 1 season as a grad assistant at his alma mater, Onondaga Community College, where he was part of a staff that won the 2018 NJCAA National Championship.

As a player, Coach Sealy started his career with the Onondaga Community College Lazers, winning back to back National Championships in 2013 and 2014. He was a part of a defense that held opponents to an average of 3 goals per game. He then transferred to Le Moyne College to finish out his career. In 2016, the Dolphins won the NCAA DII National championship against Limestone College. Coach Sealy finished with an astounding career record of 86-3 as student-athlete.

Christian Margita
Asst. Coach

McLean High School class of 2021 alumni. Former McLean men’s lacrosse JV and Varsity captain. Lettered in men’s lacrosse and indoor track & field. Recipient of the Kathy Veoni Award for McLean Student Athlete of the Year. Graduated Syracuse University class of 2025 as a four year member of the Syracuse men’s club lacrosse team. Assisted in the transition of Syracuse’s men’s club lacrosse program from the NAIA to the MCLA collegiate athletic division.
